CARPET SELECTION & CARE

PREFERRED VACUUM TYPES FOR CARPET CARE:

A cleaner with a rotating brush which mechanically loosens the soil so that the vacuum will remove it is preferred.  All loop pile carpets that can be damaged by the pull of the brush should use a cleaner with suction only is preferred. Top loading bag vacuums seem to maintain good suction and is preferred.  Proper vacuum height should be adjusted so that a vibrating action will extend a few inches from the beater, but not to low that will slow the motor down.  Also, vacuum across the traffic flow pattern to help prevent matting of the pile.

DO NOT USE & PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE:

Bleaches, tile cleaners, mildew removers, oven cleaners and drain cleaners are all bad for carpeting. They can cause major damage to the carpet.  Cremes that contain benzoyl peroxide will also cause damage to your carpet. Do not use chairs or fixtures with wheels/casters over padded carpet to prolong the life of the carpet.  Move heavy furniture occasionally to avoid crushing the pile.  Place heavy furniture on a piece of plywood or cardboard to ensure no damage.  The care of your carpet should include; regular vacuuming, removal of stains, spills and overall cleaning on a regular basis.

 AREA RUG ADVICE:

Area rugs over your carpet should be removed and cleaned regularly and replaced only after the underlying carpet is completely dry before replacing.

If you are considering renting a machine to clean the carpet yourself be advised that improper cleaning may void the manufactures warranty.  Many times the carpet is left too wet and mold/mildew will develop.  Other times there is too much detergent left in the carpet and this creates rapid soiling issues.  These are some cautionary advisements by carpet manufacturers.
